Music breathes deep within the soul and I see it as a catalyst into a greater appreciation of the mystery and beauty of God. For me, it’s always been a foundation of life change, and it’s my hope that any music I’ve created or led has moved others to similar self realization and genuine change. While I believe that music is one of many tools to become vulnerable before God, it’s one that is very powerful and is highly accepted in the modern American church.
I personally believe that excellence in music and singing ability is only half of what being a “worship leader” in the modern church is. The other half is in leadership that involves drawing people in and helping move them into a greater vulnerability and openness with God. Being a rock star is the last thing I want to be when leading worship. There’s a time and place for performance, but that’s not when filling the role of lead worshipper. |
